Vibeke Bird

Associate Specialist Dyslexia Teacher-Assessor

Vibeke is an Associate Specialist Dyslexia Teacher-Assessor or EPE who is APC registered with the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). She is also a Member of The Dyslexia Guild.

After completing a Fine Art degree at the University of Wales, Cardiff, Vibeke spent some time in Thailand where she gained a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate.

Upon returning home, she trained as a primary school teacher (with English as an Additional Language) and spent the next seven years teaching in schools across The Black Country. Vibeke then chose to further her interest in additional needs by studying for a Master’s degree in Psychology at Birmingham City University. She tailored her studies to include research into Dyslexia, ASD and ADHD.

Following a meeting with Dr. Emily Crichton, which resulted in the opportunity for Vibeke to learn about the work carried out by EPE, she trained as a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher-Assessor with the goal of working for them in the future.

Vibeke now has two roles. The first being that of a dyslexia assessor in which she aims to reduce the uncertainty that a child faces when literacy difficulties are evident, and the second being that of a dyslexia teacher in order to improve literacy skills with structured intervention.

To unwind, Vibeke likes to explore the beautiful countryside surrounding her home in The Black Country. She has a keen interest in mindfulness meditation and makes semi-precious jewellery with her daughter, Amber. Being half-Danish, Vibeke also loves spending time by the sea with her family in Denmark.
