Jenny Brookes is a Specialist Teacher for young people with Autism. Her main areas of specialism and research are supporting young people with ASD within their school setting. However, she has a particular interest and expertise in sensory issues. From how we can identify these issues, their impact on young people, on a daily basis, and how we can best offer support and strategies.
She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1982 with a B(Ed) in Learning Disabilities.
She completed her MA(Ed) at Staffordshire University in 2010. Her dissertation investigated the links between Gifted and Talented young people and Asperger’s syndrome.
Jenny worked for several years in Special Schools supporting young people with severe learning difficulties and Autism. She held various positions within these schools including Assistant Head.
Most recently she has worked for an Autism Outreach Service where she supported young people in mainstream schools with a diagnosis of Autism. Under the auspices of the Autism Outreach Service, she has delivered training to both students, staff and parents. Part of her role also involved working alongside CAMHS as part of their Multi-Disciplinary Team diagnosing young people with ASD.
At home she is a keen gardener – she has opened her Bluebell woods for the National Garden Scheme for five years, raising £10,000 for various charities.
