Dr Claire Jarvis is an Educational Psychologist who completed her doctoral training in 2018 at the University of Bristol. 

Claire completed her initial psychology undergraduate degree at Coventry University and then worked as a teaching assistant in Birmingham. Following this, she trained as a secondary Maths teacher and taught at schools in Redditch.  Claire applied to the Doctorate programme in 2016 and started her journey towards being an EP.  Claire's specialist interest surrounds supporting children and young people at risk of permanent exclusion, and she completed her doctoral thesis within a Pupil Referral Unit, focusing on what can be done to reduce the risk of exclusions from school. As part of her training, she completed placements within Birmingham Local Authority, and a private company in Worcestershire. Since then, Claire has worked as an EP in Birmingham LA, where she has supported a range of settings including; nursery, primary and secondary schools, alongside Pupil Referral Units across the city. Claire is extremely passionate about advocating for children and young people, and incorporates pupil's views as a central part of her work. 

Claire has a range of interests within fostering positive social, emotional and mental health, and has been a part of Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training and supervision, and also supporting schools on their journey to become 'Trauma Informed and Attachment Aware'. She has also recently begun training herself, in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) (Hughes and Becker-Weidman), and hopes to continue with further training to become a DDP practitioner to work with families who have experienced complex trauma.  

Outside of work, Claire enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to gigs, going on adventures or curling up on the sofa with a good book and her cat, Lilly. She is an avid house plant collector and enjoys the challenge of finding space for new plants.
